i love film noir. last night i watched “out of the past” directed by jacques tourneur and with characters played by robert mitchum, virginia huston, kirk douglas and jane greer. i think i have a new favorite film. you know you can't beat joan crawford for me though. the scene in the car at the beginning with mitchum and huston. the very troubled past love story that found its way to mexico city, taxco and acapulco. la mar azul bar. the fishing scenes in tahoe. the gas station in california. the trench coat worn by mitchum. i didn't really get greer's character. by the way, tourneur has directed a few of my favorite films: cat people and night of the demon—with my beloved dana andrews.
hace un par de semanas y sin recordar muy bien cómo, me topé con este libro titulado “instrucción de novicias: vidas del convento barroco para guiar tu presente” escrito por dos brillantes chicas españolas, carmen urbita y ana garriga. ellas han realizado investigaciones y estudios en torno a temas de literatura, vida conventual, cultura barroca, el papel de las monjas en distintos contextos y su relación con la vida moderna. y bueno, me llamó mucho la atención porque algunos lazos personales de la infancia me remontan a memorias sobre monjas. el primero, que de niña fui a una escuela de monjas, de kinder a segundo de primaria; el segundo, quien me inspiró a comenzar a escribir poesía, por allá de segundo de secundaria, fue sor juana inés de la cruz, quien a través de la clase de literatura y una maestra de la recuerdo sólo su rostro, fue que conocí. en fin, estoy tratando de conseguir el libro de estas españolas, que está publicado en inglés y español, y mientras logró conseguirlo y leerlo, me he dispuesto a escuchar su podcast (las hijas de felipe) donde hacen un recuento de su travesía, aventuras y bueno reflexionan sobre dichos temas desde una perspectiva muy interesante.
